A Border Print Obsession Begins

I have been quietly building up an obsession for border print fabric.  I mean LOOK at these dresses and skirts made from border prints.

It started when I found this skirt on Pinterest.

And this from Pinup Girl Clothing:

After I saw this on a Pinterest Board, I actually started to consider taking up screen printing just to get anything like this fabric:

All of these looks are so gorgeous and I find myself coveting the fabric more and more each day. I have been searching relentlessly online for any fabric resembling anything like these... and zilch.  I go into the fabric stores around here and it remains elusive.

Where are you getting your border print?  Is it all special ordered and made special just for you never to be available to the general public?  I am starting to feel a little hopeless about getting my hands on some.  Please comment if you can point me in the right direction.

  1. Oh no... That first one may just send me over the line too! So. Lovely. :) I've never had any luck finding border fabric though.

    1. Isn't it lovely! I will continue the search... I may be forced to write the person who owns the etsy shop where the kirt was sold and begging for information.

  3. Looks at www.jinnybeyer.com, she is a quilter who specializes in using border prints, she may have some on her site and you may want to try quilt stores. Just a thought.

  4. I have the opposite problem. I've got a length of fantastic vintage border print fabric but can't find a pattern for it. I want to make a knee length dress but the print, which is of New York Central Park has trees and buildings reaching almost to the top edge so I need a high waist so it doesn't get cut off. Have you come across a suitable pattern like that, or maybe a shift dress?

    1. Oh! You have a fantastic problem! Have you looked at Vintage Vogue V8789? That one looks fantastic for a border print. The example they show has a border print.

  5. Thanks Cherie, The problem is my fabric is 37" wide and I need at least 28" to get all the pattern in, which would make the skirt part way too long. Ideally I want it to come just above my knees which means the waist seam being just under my bust. I've seen shift dresses with a border but the shift dress patterns I've got have curved hems and obviously this has to be straight.

  6. I found your blog while searching for help on using a border print I have. It's a quilting weight cotton and I'm ready to find a new home for it. If you would like it, I'll take a picture and let you know how much yardage I have. If you let me know how to contact you without posting my email to the universe, I'll check back here again this weekend (8/17/2013). -Sue
