Thrift Shop Score

I went to a small town in Iowa to visit my grandma for a couple days.  While there, I went to the local thrift store (like Goodwill but more local) and totally scored some vintage dress making supplies.
Four complete belt kits with four more buckles for fabric covered belts.
Unopened fabric covered button and snap kits.
And this is something I have never heard of.  A bound button hole maker.  I can't wait to try it.
Plus, this.  I don't even know what it is from.  But it is Dorothy Lamour.  It is a little cardboard cut out.  I'll put her on my fridge.
All of this goodness was about 5.00 total. I have seen the belt kits on e-bay for 5.00 to 10.00 each.  I usually don't have such good luck with thrift stores.  I go into them, but they are pretty picked clean except for a few patterns from the 80's.  And I wasn't a fan of 80's clothes the first time, so no need to repeat on that.

Anyone ever used a bound button hole maker?  I also need to look up Dorothy Lamour.

  1. Nice haul! I'd love to go on a road trip just so I could visit all the thrift shops off the beaten path. Coletterie has a tutorial for the button hole maker here: http://www.coletterie.com/tutorials-tips-tricks/how-to-use-the-dritz-bound-buttonhole-tool

Please post pics when you use it!

    1. Oooohh! Thanks for the link! I'll check that out! I think it has to be the thrift stores in all the small towns that are hiding all the good stuff! I was thinking about going to some estate sales to see if there is anything. Thanks again for the link.
